Our 14-day Harley-Davidson tour from Cape Town into Namibia is an epic long-distance journey built around open roads, raw landscapes, and classic Harley touring. It is a ride defined by space, contrast, and a steady rhythm that rewards riders who appreciate the journey as much as the destinations.

Your adventure begins in Cape Town, heading north along the West Coast where the Atlantic Ocean sets the tone for the days ahead. The ride through Lamberts Bay offers smooth tar, fishing villages, and expansive coastal views.  It’s an easy, confidence-building introduction that lets riders settle into their bikes and the pace of the tour.

Crossing the Orange River into Namibia, the scenery opens dramatically. The road to Oranjemund follows the Orange River through a stark, semi-desert environment, ending in one of Namibia’s most remote and historically exclusive towns. From here, the ride continues to Rosh Pinah, where mining towns and vast, empty roads highlight the scale and isolation that make Namibia such a special place to ride.

From the south, the route turns west toward Aus, passing rugged desert plains where wild horses roam. The sense of remoteness deepens as riders continue to Lüderitz, a windswept coastal town where the desert meets the Atlantic Ocean. Here, highlights include dramatic coastal riding, fresh seafood, and the eerie beauty of the nearby Kolmanskop ghost town. Parking a Harley by the ocean, with seabirds overhead and fog rolling in, is one of the most atmospheric moments of the ride.

We then leave the cool coastal region and head into the interior. This is one of the longest legs and a true Harley touring highlight. The road climbs away from the coast, temperatures rise, and the scenery evolves from desert plains to central highlands. Long, flowing tar allows effortless cruising, and the sense of distance conquered is deeply satisfying. Windhoek provides rest, good accommodation, mechanical support, and a touch of city life. After remote riding, the cafés, fuel stations, and lively streets feel almost luxurious. It’s the ideal midpoint to regroup before heading back to the coast, this time to the town of Swakopmund.

One of Namibia’s most enjoyable tar rides is next. The B2 climbs over the Khomas Hochland, carving through mountain passes with sweeping bends and elevation changes; it’s pure rider satisfaction. Descending toward the coast, the air cools rapidly and the landscape opens into gravel plains and desert.

Swakopmund greets you with palm trees, seaside promenades, and a relaxed coastal vibe. After inland heat, the foggy Atlantic air feels refreshing and surreal.

We then swap the Harleys for 4X4 vehicles for 2 days as we head to Sossusvlei. This leg is all about visual scale. Vast gravel plains, deep silence, and the growing anticipation as red dunes begin to dominate the skyline. Arriving at Sossusvlei and seeing the dunes at sunrise or sunset is one of the most iconic moments of any Namibian visit. The drive back to Swakopmund is usually done in quiet self-reflection.

After overnighting in Swakopmund we head off to another of Namibia’s attractions, Etosha National Park. Leaving the Namib Desert, the route gradually changes from arid reds to central highlands and eventually greener northern bushveld. Roads are generally good, and the riding is relaxed and steady.

Approaching Etosha, wildlife sightings increase even outside the park, including warthogs, kudu, and antelope near the road. We leave our bikes outside the reserve and enjoy a day and a half of game viewing, where we hope to spot the big 5 in their natural environment.

Sadly, all good things come to an end, and we depart Etosha for Windhoek, where we enjoy our last meal as a group at the famous “Joes Beerhouse” (you haven’t been to Namibia if you haven’t been to Joes), before we fly out to our various destinations.
